The one in my hand was my favorite, but the hippo is sooo cute. There was a vintage Fiesta bud vase, and a Roseville planter also. Lots of cool stuff!!

ANother totally off topic subject, But my husband is now scheduled for knee replacement on Sept 5th! Whew! I made him wait until after the National Dahlia Show in Portland so I could have a little recreation before hand, LOL. I know I will need some good memories to get through his recovery time, but really, I am so pleased that this will happen. He needs the other knee done too but this is the most painful one. I'll make sure he does his therapy so he can help dig dahlias by frost time , LOL. I had my knees replaced 15 years ago so I am familiar with the routine. I understand now he may even come home the first night...My cousin recently did that with a hip replacement . I do think that is pushing it a bit!

Early spring I was trying to figure out what dahlia tuber the cats were playing with under the table. I had just unpacked 2 big orders, and was packing and sending small packages of tubers to Krista and Steve, And there was this one nice looking tuber kicking around on the floor with no code on it. Well, I plnted it out in a bed, right at the end of the row and labeled it "Cat Toy". Its opening its first bloom today. It was a beautiful Salish Twilight Girl with silvery petals. I hope you both got enough Salish Twilight Girl to multiply and that yours are as pretty as this one!

calico20hill Hilarious! I planted my Salish Twilight Girl rather late so if she doesn’t bloom this year, I’ll definitely see her next season! I’m really really excited to see Salish Lullaby, October Wedding, and Winds who will definitely be blooming this year!

The buds on my first two Salish Twilight Girl blooms are starting to show color so I should get to see a bloom in about a week. All plants are looking good!

I bet she will bloom this year, Krista. It might be late but you should get a month or more of blooms unless the weather does something totally crazy like a freeze in August. I am seeing a half dozen or so showing color and it is not even August yet. My first freeze on the Island used to come around Halloween.

I left some in the ground last fall and have my first bloom .INteresting that yours are starting the same time since it has been a late bloomer for me in the past, I think I will continue to overwinter some in my garden as well as digging and saving some . Posting accident, LOL. The first one is Salish Leila, named for my grand neice and also because I thought this one looked a lot like HH Leda.

Found a cute friend in my dad’s dahlia garden! He climbed onto my son’s hand, hung out for a bit, and then hopped back into the foliage.

A tree frog slept overnight on the weed eater battery and when I brought it in for charging he jumped off in the hallway. How do you catch a tree frog in your house? Turned out he just sat near the door waiting to go back out. I caught him in a cottage cheese container and helped him out the door. Your frog is prettier that our solid brown version.

About that fall I took through the crazy patchwork deck....I now have bursitis in every joint I think on the right side where I landed first and that took the brunt of the fall. Lots of swelling. Apparently not much can be done but resting it and waiting for time to heal it. I am sure there were no broken bones and there are no pills that cure this, but its sure going to slow me down for the Dahlia Show in Portland. I am trying to stay off my feet as much as possible which is really hard to do! I iced the joints thoroughly for the first 3 days after the accident I need a little scooter to ride to get me around :-(.

calico20hill Oh that sounds very painful - I’m hoping you can get lots of downtime in the next few days so that recovery can start stepping it up for you!
