Honnat I wish I could less varieties and more of each one too. Last year I said I would downsize and grow 4 of each... but it didn't happen. I can try again next year.

I was able to pick up my most wanted variety at Lobaugh’s (Skipley road Sherry), but skipped a lot of others because it seemed excessive to order one single tuber at a time. And my second most wanted (Newaukum Honey) never made an appearance (or sold out super fast!).

I ordered Papas Benji and Wyn’s Neon Dream from Creekside, but dipped on Allen’s String Theory. I grew Wyn’s Neon Dream last year but accidentally gave away too many tubers and wound up with none for myself in the spring. Oops! I’m excited to have it back (not a yellow hater here!).

I am very excited about picking up SRS too! And also wanted Newaukum Honey but missed if/when it was available. I’m most looking forward to growing Suitzus Julie though, the micro-waterlily. Someone at the ADS National show told me that it was the first ever micro dahlia variety recognized? I haven’t researched this yet, but it’s very adorable.

I snagged a few goodies from Lobaughs but honestly the one I'm most excited about is Lo-Star, a micro orchid. I picked up Maui Clay too. I've also ordered more cactus types. My dahlia tastes are expanding. I don't even know who I am anymore!

This is the second year I’ve tried for it at two different sites and never even saw it in stock at either one. I’m starting to think it’s a true “unicorn” (just a myth)! 🤣🤣🤣

Juliarugula 🤣 a figment! Agreed! I also felt like Maks Royal Ruby was “out of stock” for most of the sale and then just magically just disappeared from the inventory. That sale was a brain- bender!

Wayne Lobaugh loves to tell the story of Newaukum Honey in great detail. He loved it as a seedling and accumulated enough stock to release it and to show it on the ADS bench. It did very well scoring on the bench however the flower was classified differently in all three shows. I believe it was an informal decorative, a stellar, and formal decorative. The colors were different too. I believe he won a medal also. So the shows are over and you dig the tubers. Wayne said it had been an excellent tuber maker but when he dug the clumps after it won all the prizes, he found out it was a terrible tuber maker. He grew as much of it as he could the next year and ditto, it made very very few tubers. Now it is obviously a member of the new dahlia class called a "Unicorn".

Teddahlia I don't remember it looking that shaggy. I used to grow it and liked it but I guess the problem I had was the "very very few tubers". I would still like to grow it but not to have to purchase new every year. I would not even mind paying for a new one, but not going to battle over getting my hands on one!

Teddahlia Wow, this photo is very different indeed from the current photo on Lobaugh’s, thanks for posting it here! Perhaps it’s good I didn’t purchase it, I’m not sure I need to have a growing inventory of dahlias included in my budget for annuals. 🥴

I’ve wanted N. Honey for years. I was so sad to be driving 5 hours to St Louis for my sons soccer tournament when Wayne had his sale. I missed it again. Some year 😊

Missed creekside and Wayne sale dang. Seems like they intro 2023 ones then some they did not relist the following year? Maybe they are bad tuber makers. I grew All 4 of the CV 2023 intros and only had Clearview Pataha survive the voles. I got 3 tubers from the plant so not too good?

Only place I was able to order replacements from was Eagle river replacing 3 hollyhill - moonsong, snowdrop and Sir j paxton... who was a famous gardener and cavendish bananas are from him so I assume its how it was named if so very cool if so!

Sir Joseph Paxton was the world expert on dahlias in the 1830s. He was knighted by Queen Victoria because he designed and built the Crystal Palace for the world exhibition in 1851. It was the world's largest building and had 20 acres of floor space and was built in less than 9 months. and the actual assembly of the parts took 17 weeks. He was in charge of the greenhouse where the Cavendish banana was grown as a decorative plant. When the "big mike" banana caught a killer fungus and declined in the 1950s. the cavendish banana replaced it as our most popular banana.

Teddahlia Once again, I must ask. Please write a book. Someone in our society asked today if it would be possible to have a speaker on the history of dahlias. Are you up to participate in a zoom meeting discussing history?

I was stalking Dahlia Del for a while knowing a December pre-sale was coming, and was a little bit delighted that the website opened at somewhere between 10 pm and 12 am PST. I'm an insomniac and so that is the preferred time for a "mystery" opening for me. 🙂

If Dahlia Del had a 10-12 pm PST opening, it would be 1-3am on the East Coast. Just plain inconsiderate.

BarryO I just happened to come on talk about Dahlia Del being open so I checked them out this afternoon and found some of the older tubers I needed replacements for. Not trying for the ones everyone else wanted but happy to have 2 American Dawn coming to grace my garden again! I ordered about $90 worth and half an hour later I had a fraud alert on my brand newly replaced credit card! I guess anytime I order out of the area they are going to guess it is fraud...they sure don't know me very well, LOL. (It is all centrally located now, not the small community bank where I knew everyone). Anyhow, I got that one straightened out and the order should go through, but it seems as though if it isn't one thing blocking us it is another! I still like the written check mailed along with an order that we used to do! I never had those refused by my bank .

I was wondering if anybody was able to get a tuber of Fern Ridge Pride? I know there were some members of the forum who were looking for it. I was sound asleep during opening (EST here) so I don’t know if it was stocked or not (it showed as “sold out” when I got to the site this morning).

Not looking for it for myself - I just noticed the listing and thought of this group and so was curious…

We visited the Fern Ridge farm before it closed. It was not too far from Eugene, Oregon on the road to the West and not far from Rivers Dahlias. No one was there and we wandered around. We grew several of their varieties including Fernridge Pride.
