We haven't had a real freeze here yet. Starting to wonder... Anyway, tender stuff like this flowering maple and Mexican bush sage is partying like it's 1999....

I had made Oregon grape jam just last year, from the plants within a nice posh neighborhood nearby, planted by the HOA for decoration. I thought it tasted so close to concord grape.

I have enough salal berry just off the back patio to try jamming that this summer, but didn't have enough salmonberries this spring.

Bopped over to Yakima for the weekend and discovered we have roses! I don’t think the varieties planted are particularly fancy, but this one is bursting with pink blooms which brighten this corner of the backyard nicely.

Krista That is a lovely rose! Oh, I am happy that you will have some to start out with! And I imagine it is well acclimated to the climate as well! Does it smell purdy?

calico20hill Oh what a great point! Roses seem to do well here, I see them in lots of folks landscaping. And its fragrance wafts through the backyard and it’s heavenly!

Juliarugula I remember the photos you shared a while ago of your outstanding climbing roses! Wow, did those blow me away. As much as I really don’t enjoy thorns, your photos keep me thinking in the back of my mind that maybe I’ll need to find space for a climber one day …

Krista I think it must have been somebody else! I shared photos of my roses, but while they are on the large side, they aren’t climbers. I love a good climber though! Somebody in my neighborhood has an enormous pink one, but they don’t know the name of the variety.

Thought I’d share this photo of a leaf of my seedling hosta. This is its third year - only two eyes, but the leaves have sized up nicely and the streaks are super pretty.

Yesterday my mom and I went to Fennville, a small town about 30 minutes from my house. Every year a farming family there does a big poppy field as a memorial to their veteran son who passed after a struggle with PTSD. We were there early before many other visitors and it was incredible! My cousin/her niece took her life last month and my mom and I got a little more emotional than we thought we would going to see a field of flowers but in a good way. It was so peaceful and lovely.
