calico20hill I got my tubers moved into the guest bedroom now. Its way too warm. I might just open the window a bit until it cools down. I was able to accompllish the move wiith just two big red wagons full.I never had my tubers take up so little space before.
Teddahlia My friend Gordon Jackman stored his tubers in the spare bedroom with the window open and the heat vent closed . They froze and he lost all of them.
Krista Well it briefly hailed this afternoon in Seattle but we’re back to 36 degrees F. The light dusting appears to be melting away. The forecast is still calling for low temps in the high teens starting tomorrow but the previously anticipated precipitation through the weekend is no more. Freezing cold, clear, sunny skies tomorrow — and likely a fair amount of ice if the temps drop tonight as expected.
Juliarugula I just moved all my tubers into my college kids closet. Last year I stripped the insulation down from the walls that it shares with the attic and tacked foam board onto the inside of the door. That kept it in the mid fifties for the colder part of the winter. I’m expecting a chance to see how well our new backup generator works.
AKWindWatcher I offered to send some cooler weather down to the PNW but I didn't mean to send temps as cold as it sounds like you're getting. My apologies. Feel free to send it back up here where temps in the teens is considered balmy. I was outside several times today with only a lightweight fleece on. 🙂
KitCMC AndreaB Finger crossed you avoid freezing rain! I’ve never heard anyone say “oreo” storm before, but it’s an apt description!
Emilyp Blizzard conditions here today, then moving to very cold weather as the weekend progresses. We have a high of -1 on Monday. Time to turn on the garage heater!
calico20hill OK, Erika, slow it down a bit. Temps ave dropped several degrees since I got up 2 hours ago. Its going to hit the freezing ones any minute,,,33 degrees right now. I have all the tubers inside the house now. ... We just dropped to 32...
Juliarugula It’s not too bad so far here. We’ve been slightly above freezing, so all the snow is wet and thick. Which probably won’t be great when it drops into the teens tomorrow. Also, I think the heavy snow hasn’t hit us yet. Mostly, I’m just trying to mentally prepare myself to be stuck inside for the next three or four days.
Teddahlia 32F here at 1PM. It is not supposed to get above freezing until next Tuesday at 4PM. That will be 4 days below freezing. Even if they are off by half a day that is a long stretch of cold weather here. I moved the tubers to our basement and hope the power does not go off.

Krista 22 degrees here in Seattle — blue skies and sunny! My wildlife cam says garden activity has been very quiet - must be too cold for our soft, PNW critters to creep out to explore. We did have a little black cat that visited early this morning which was nice to see. Black cat is very welcome as it’s a very skilled ratter; butchers with surgical precision!
calico20hill 19 degrees and snowing like crazy! Its starting to cover the grass that was bare when it started. The temp has been stable since I got up several hours ago. I am glad I brought the tubers into the house.
Paige calico20hill I’m really hoping that you all continue to get snow and not that dreaded freezing rain🤞🏻
