Teddahlia We are still unable to go outside due to the ice storm here. It warmed up to just above freezing instead of the mid 40s that they forecast. 34F at about 11AM. We had an inch of ice on top of the two inches of sleet and it is still about 1.5 inches thick as it melts slowly. I cannot safely walk on it and we let the dogs out with no supervision and they come back in a few minutes as they do not like either. .
KitCMC I hope everyone in the PNW is getting through this round of storms relatively unscathed. Your weather has been brutal this week. calico20hill glad your stove will be back and warming those tubers soon! Teddahlia that’s an unbelievable amount of ice!
calico20hill And a prediction for another ice storm this afternoon. The temp is up to 35 here now and I think the ice is gone off my Coral Bark Maples in front of the house so at least there will be less to build p on them with a new storm. Broken Garage woodstove is being loaded to go to the welders shop right now.He says he can fix it for about 1/10th cost of a new one, and get it back in place and hooked up with the new chimney by night. Garage so far has hovered around 34-36 degrees so a bit too iffy even with my insulated tuber locker.
Krista calico20hill fix it for about 1/10th cost of a new one, and get it back in place and hooked up with the new chimney by night. This is the best news I’ve heard in a while, hooray, Noni!
calico20hill Krista Wood stove now back to full function! Safe temps for tubers and a back up warmed space if our power goes out! Also, a place for Mr Calico and our daughter and grandson to play trains. Daughter is in interior designs and loves working on the train board for -n-guage trains. Our grandson is 4 now and loves using the switches to control the tracks...he has his wooden trains near by for when he gets too wild for Grandpa's trains! It will be good to get the tuber sorting and checking back out of my living room!
MissyWeitzel As if snow and cold weren't enough, Michigan is cloudy more often than not in winter. Today there was a strange glowing orb visible in the sky and it felt wonderful to feel the sun warm my face. Just past our house the pavement ends and the blue skies and snow covered trees were worth getting my car dirty.
Juliarugula MissyWeitzel beautiful photos! We like to refer to the “permacloud” of winter. It’s funny - we live just a few miles from the Indiana/Michigan state line. I hardly ever see wild Turkeys here in Indiana, but as soon as I cross the state line - turkeys everywhere! It’s like there’s an invisible turkey fence along State Line Road or something…
AndreaB We were fortunate to see the sun, as well. It was a perfect day to visit our little town’s ice festival and soak up some vitamin D. And, after a beautiful, sunny day, we were treated to a colorful sunset!
KitCMC AndreaB so much fun! What a wonderful wintertime event. I’m in awe of the talent on display 👏👏👏
calico20hill Last of the snow will be gone in a few hours. Now it is flood time. I enjoy watching the creek zipping along like a mighty river . It is at the top of its banks but not spilling over yet. No worries unless it actually gets up to the back corner of the living room and it has never done that as far as the neighbors remember.
calico20hill Teddahlia Wow, Ted! We are only at 44F. Overcast , maybe a bit drippy. YOu must have sunshine?
calico20hill OK. I guess we need some of those flowers to warm us up! We are now up to 45 which is certainly more pleasant than alst week. Gloomy overrcast here is blocking the sun's rays.
