We are supposed to hit 100 degrees tomorrow and almost that hot the next day, then cool back down. My beds should be fine on automatic drip. I might have some burned foliage and blooms but I don't have shade cloth. Mr Calico has had too much going on health wise and arthritis wise to try to get shade cloth up.

Thermometer just hit 100 at 3 PM. I have not been outside all day because I do not do well in these temperatures. I hope Wenatchee it not too hot for all you convention goers! It can be pretty warm when we are only in the 80's here. I sent Hubby out to pick our gravenstein apples this morning so they would not bake on the tree like last heat wave. I would rather do them in the oven with cinnamon and sugar on them! It is a minidwarf tree so the whole crop fit in a super big bowl.

I just checked the Wenatchee weather for the national show. Only 100F each day.

I just checked our weather forcast and it looks like this could be the warmest day we have left. Its a muggy, grayish day and 83 degrees.iI the next 10 days the temps drop into the 60's and that takes us into late September. We have enough smoke in the air that it has kept the temperature down a few degrees today I suspect but I surely am looking forward to sunny days with cool evenings. Not frosty evenings, just cool evenings!

I am making my official dahlia map of what is blooming where and pulling out those seedlings that are of no earthly good except to the bees.

We've had some pretty decent rainstorms here the past month. The plants were looking happier & healthier then a hailstorm came through last week and just leveled out quite a few plants and destroyed tons of blooms.

Last week it rained hard enough for a creek to be running through our property for an evening.

Edewitt: Weather is an interesting challenge where you live. Is frost is the short term forecast? We are going into our September weather where it is about 70 degrees each day.

Right now it's dipped into the upper-40's a few times but we're still at highs in the 80's and usually upper-50's for early mornings.

KitCMC between the gophers(eating two dahlias a week) and the water bill, I'm seriously thinking how I'm going to keep mentally strong for growing dahlias. I was really puzzled when I learned the infamous Santa Cruz California hybridizer had already stored her first year seedlings for overwintering. Then I saw the relentless gopher appetites in my yard, and I am seriously considering digging some of my seedlings before leaving on a 16 day trip in late October. Hard to image digging when I've had two 90+ degrees weather these past few days. FYI, the quart size containers I sunk in the ground, that the tubers break through, are easy pickings for the gophers. Sigh, that method needs improving.

Here in Virginia, we have had lovely mild weather (finally,) and the dahlias are coming out to play. The next ten days appear to be some variety of rain, hopefully not too much. I’ll be heading to Argentina to experience a couple of weeks of their springtime late next week. Here’s hoping there are a few more weeks for the dahlias to bloom when I return 🤞🏻

I'm so glad we are on the cooler side of your weather spot...I think we made it to 89. We are down to 73 now and Lets NOT repeat this scenario this year!

Bessie sorry about that! I had a groundhog come in and decimate an entire bed of zinnias earlier in the summer. He made significant holes under the fence and it was driving me nuts. Nevermind I have two terriers on premises 🙄 I kept thinking “if he goes for the dahlias, I’m going to take extreme measures.” We live in the city, so options are limited.
Maybe it was just the extremely dry conditions that made him trespass…or maybe another neighbor took exception to the groundhog. All I know is I haven’t seen any sign of him in months, and there was no damage to the dahlias. The zinnias bounced back nicely too. It was as if he treated them to an extreme deadheading 😂
Good luck with the gophers. I feel your pain.

Bessie UGH, I’m sorry! Rabbits are my rodent nemesis. It’s so frustrating to see something totally eliminated in one night. If I ever have the space for extensive raised beds, I will go that route. Seems like a good solution for excessive rain & for rodents.

With the combination of "Critterfence" that has an outside apron on the ground to deter digging in from outside, and the raised beds with wire bottoms I have had NO gopher invasions, but I do realize it is just a a matter of time. We do have plenty of moles that create road hazards in the pathways under the landscape cloth. AND THE VIGILANTE DUCK patrols....

37 degrees at the house this morning. I have not been down to the garden yet to check it. A friend up the road a bit but about as far from the river got frosted.

Putting a "like" on a message that it may have frosted there does not seem to be quite appropriate. Saying it did not frost here also is not quite right. 😳

35F here this morning. Some frost on grass. I checked dahlia seed pods and they were not frosted. No frost again in forecast for over a week.
