My tubers in storage seem to be doing well. I’ve been checking every so often, and I usually toss one or two that have mold or soft necks. Last year, I split them up for safety, and I’m doing that again this year. There are two cooler boxes holding smaller boxes filled with vermiculite. Those live in a stone bulkhead. When the weather dipped into the low teens during January, I simply moved them inside the adjacent heated basement for that week. I’ve also got bundles in Saran Wrap in the fridge. I’ve been slowly adding to that collection, because they seem to do so well.
I took out a batch to pre-warm for cuttings before I left for California earlier this month. In my imagination, I’d come home to nice big sprouts begging to be rooted. Alas, they’re poking along. I also made pot tubers this year, and a few of those are ready to cut. I still haven’t settled on the size and scope of my propagation setup for this year. The weather is warmer today, so maybe that will motivate me!
