I do cards (originally the Floret cards but now I make my own as I've branched out past hers. The print shop lady calls me the flower lady as I come in every year). This was great for planning this winter too. Looking at what I had and already ordered, I realized I didn't want so many light dahlias. It should have also told me I had too many raspberry, but I ordered more anyway. I also realized yellow was sorely lacking, despite my dislike of the color by itself, it does add a lot to a garden. I then chose which of my three areas each dahlia are going in (favorites go on the front side yard, middles go in the back yard, and least favorites, duplicates, should toss but can't bring myself to go in the former tomato garden). Then, the most important step, I give the sets of cards to my now twelve-year-old daughter to organize, preferably in ombre order. She has been doing this since 8 I think? The two better zones are rows of two, staggered, so super tall ones have to go in back (odd numbers) and super shorties go in the front (even numbers), so sometimes I have to tell her xx has to go one higher or lower. But most are middle and just go based on color. Then the second most important step is they get put into an excel spreadsheet with a code S1-S41 for side yard, and B1-B12 for back yard. I also put the supplier on there, as I've noticed some suppliers have more virus then others or some don't do as well the first year.
But I may have over thought this. But it brings me joy
