Looking for information about the JL prefix and the hybridizer Graybill (US). There is only one JL listed in the ADS online classification guide.

Does anyone know the history/hybridizer of Jasmine Pearl? I can't find anything on ADS site, National Gardening Association Data Base, or the European data bases I typically search. The only variety I can find is Tahoma Jasmine, M FD PR by Les Connell.

I have bought Jasmine Pearl from Connel's in the past. I wonder if they changed the name ? It hasn't done much for me when I did buy it.

calico20hill That might be it. Just a slight name change. This will be my second year growing this one - it was a late bloomer and not very productive for me last year, but a pretty bloom.

Verkist Dahlias - I bought their tubers from Joe's Gardens and Whatcom County Master Gardener plant sales. A special favorite was Verkist Orange Crush - 4" WL-type - a vibrant deep orange that pulsed w/ red/yellow, about 5' tall. Cannot find her anywhere! Decent tuber producer but lost in a move.

I like “pulsed” as an adjective for color patterning on petals. Sounds impactful!

Does anyone know what year Pink Pearl started selling? A friend has Pink Pearl and has HH? next to it. There are several sellers of Pink Pearl on Dahlia Addict. My assumption is Pink Pearl (non ads) is its own variety. HH Pink Pearl was released in 2021.

Hollyhill Pink Pearl went bad with virus for us and has been replaced by Hollyhill Pink Pearl Two. On the UK list there are 4 Pink Pearl varieties without any prefix. I like the famous Pink Pearl Rhododendron and it grows to nearly tree sized. There is one in the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in Portland that was transplanted from the defunct , world famous Lambert Gardens. It was so nice of them to put apartment houses on the land where Lambert Gardens existed. It closed in 1968 and I was in college then and not yet addicted to dahlias.

Mine barely bloomed before frost last year. I will move them to the sunnier end of a row and see if that will get them blooming. I have enjoyed this variety for years!

Thistle" introduced 1985 and its breeder, surname Sell? Curt Sell died a few years ago and he was a commercial grower in Washington State. We visited his garden(he was not there) and it was rented land on a highway. I saw Thistle growing there and whole bunch of other flowers that we wanted to buy. He had a collection of several Barbarry flowers that we really liked and one was called Barbarry Signal. Later we tried to get Thistle and Horse Feathers but only found Horse Feathers and Thistle was always a "unicorn" for most everybody. I would grow this type except the genes would ruin our seedlings. Jean Heeringa bred several of them and they are the ones to grow.

bloomhjelm Wow! I have never seen Thistle before but it is awesome!!!! I really like the ones with barbed petals like this. There was someone on another board trying to find Vista Pet. Her list of barbed varieties were Vista Pet, Vista Cody, Horse Feathers, Wabi Sabi, & Kung Fu Kitty. I am also crazy about these unique varieties so have the last 3 but neither of the Vista's yet.... does anyone know of any other barbed petal varieties I need to add to my list?

Hybridizer, Lou Paradise has a long list of introductions over the years and dominated at the trial gardens this year with four Lynn B. Dudley awards. I think i've only seen two for sale. I checked dahlia addict for prefix "Eden" and didn't find much.

Is anyone growing Lou Paradise dahlias?

MIDahlias I went to the SFO dahlia society sale a couple years ago at Golden Gate Park. I got there really late so there were slim pickens at that time! I think several of these were for sale there because the Eden prefix seems familiar. I know I got Fusion there which when I looked it up at the sale with another society member, showed me it was a pretty lavender bloom...but that was the British version of fusion. Lou's was a bright orange flame type bloom 😝 I'm not sure I still have it?

MIDahlias A friend gave me an unexpected gift of one of her coveted Eden Benary tubers. She said it was super hard to get last year and was one of her most favorite new additions. It was very pretty growing in her garden so I'm looking forward to it. 😊

MIDahlias I ordered an Eden Talos last year and it came with rot 😭 I really hope to grow it one day. His stuff is beautiful.

Lou Paradise was the editor of the ADS Classification book for several years. He lives in the San Francisco area. He is known for being a perfectionist. Veca Lucia may be his most popular introduction and it is a really pretty one.
I do not know how to buy his originations.

I wasn't sure what you meant by "barbed" I looked up Vista Pet... Crazy. This is the first time I've seen this.

I loved barbed dahlias also. I'm glad IA flower farm in Lynden is helping distribute some Vistas.
