Solid sports usually revert back some time in the future. However, it is not unusual for the jumping gene to "jump too far" and never come back. My mentor Phil Mingus disliked variegated flowers as he culled the solid flower plants and had fewer tubers to sell. Some variegated varieties almost never sport solid. HH Spreckles has never sported solid for me. And I bet the solid sport would be a real nice flower. By the way, some y/red variegated flowers have been known to sport to solid yellow although it is very rare.
2023 - Dahlia Blooms
Sandia Tiger is looking soooo good.
JS Jenny is a highlighter yellow
I ordered Hollyhill Electra from a vendor and accidentally got Hapet Electra instead. Fortunately Ted sent me some mystery tubers and I'm quite sure this is HH Electra.
My Sellwood Glory I was so excited about ended up being Shadowcat or something like that. Quite disappointing.

So that’s a thing? I had a NOID that Julia so kindly helped me ID earlier in the season, as JS Jenny.
I had taken a cutting and the second plant has been blooming yellow. It was the correct form, but I was still baffled. Glad I can finally move on from that mystery!

I bet I know where you bought it. The same thing happened to me. Sooo disappointing.

Yeah I'm not sure how to go about letting a couple vendors know I was sent the wrong tuber. I know I didn't get anything mixed up because I'm overly meticulous when it comes to keeping track of which tuber is which.
Helen Bair used to sell tubers and had a 30% mis marking rate. We all knew it before we bought. She really tried but it was the chickens fault.

I actually think the bright yellow is JS Jerry isn’t it? And the orangey-gold is JS Jenny? I don’t know what to make of an orange-turned yellow though.
Speaking of mislabels. My Sandia Cancan that was soooooo pokey and tiny, that I’ve been waiting forever to bloom, finally bloomed. And it’s Sandia Gold. No wonder it was so slow - my other Sandia Golds also have taken their sweet time.
Juliarugula I have a Sandia Melody that has started blooming in the past few days and a Sandia Gold budded up with color. After seeing the Hollyhill waterlilies for the past few months, my first reaction was to dump the underwhelming Sandia plants and blooms. Any opinions? Should I rethink that instinct to just get rid of the Sandia Melody and Sandia Gold(yet to bloom)?
Juliarugula The JS Jenny/Jerry was supposed to be Wyn’s Farmer John. I’ll cull the yellow one. More than likely will give Jenny another chance, as I do like that form.
I’ve seen others posting Sandia Gold recently. Seems to be a slow poke, but a nice reward for having patience! Too bad about Sandia Cancan. It’s no fun when your mislabel is one you already have.
Bessie I may not be the best person to ask, because (heresy!) I think I’ve decided this year that waterlily types aren’t really my thing. In general, I’ve liked my Hollyhill waterlilies better than my Sandia waterlilies, but Sandia Susan was one of my top favorites.
I’d love to see some photos of Sandia Melody when it blooms! I was looking for that one last year but couldn’t find a tuber for sale.
Manor Jayne finally bloomed and she’s gorgeous (but kind of hard to photograph)
Love Jennie
My best Bloomquist Jean bloom ever
Hollyhill Dungeness is getting going pretty late this year.
Budapest Blush Another one of those two-fer blooms. Blooms all blush or mostly magenta
with a touch of blush, or anywhere in between.
Some of the late-blooming dahlias have been such a thrill. They’re certainly putting on
a grand finale!

edewitt I just bought HH Wicked Witch for the first time and have been wondering if I have a mislabel. The second bloom is opening all dark red. Now I know what may have happened!
