Krista My sweet peas will have striped patterns like this sometimes, it is color breaking due to a sweet pea mosaic virus. I hope that yours is a sport and not a virus because it is quite beautiful!

Emilyp Oh sweet-awful horror, well I guess this is lots less exciting suddenly 😅 I hope now that this isn’t anything other than a sport now too.

Krista I really hope it is a sport too! I looked through my sweet pea photos, to see if I had any examples to show you, but I didn't take any, I pull the suspect plants immediately. If it happens on a light colored sweet pea, there is dark stripes, but on darker colored sweet peas there are white stripes. But, since DMV is so prevalent, you would think we all would have seen this type of pattern before on dahlias if it was due to DMV, so that is a point for the sport column 🙂

I don't like red flowers that much. I bought Angels of 7a Dahlia from Swan Island based on the glowing reviews, and that it is a good cut flower. Seeing it bloom taught me to not judge a Dahlia until I see it bloom in my garden. I'm surprised how much I like this flower. Really long stems and the flower continues to open in the vase. It's a beautiful shade of red. Based on flower shape, could it be the white waterlily seedling (23061) has genetics related to the red waterlily? The purple Dahlia is Diva.

Hollyhill Donatella produced it's first bloom in Bessie's torture chamber garden.

And after a gopher chomped down one plant of Hollyhill Snowdrop that was doing really nice in a sunny location, my consolation first blooms are from a plant in afternoon shade.

Angels of 7a has a sad story behind it. For many years, the younger Nick Gitts(their father was Nick Gtts Sr) and his brother Ted Gitts ran the Swan Island Dahlia farm. Nick did the public relations side of the business and did his share of the actual farming while his brother Ted Gitts preferred to just do the farming work related to growing dahlias. Ted was the master of huge tractor with 6 foot tall wheels that they used to plant the tubers. All farmers appreciate anyone who can drive a tractor in a precise straight line for many miles. Ted was one of those revered tractor drivers who made sure the dahlia rows were long and straight at the farm.
Ted was involved in a terrible auto accident and was unconscious but still alive. He spent several weeks in the hospital ward 7a but despite their heroic efforts he died from the massive injuries. The red waterlily dahlia flower is named in honor of the staff at the hospital who cared for him.

Krista Krista, I was just looking up #chinadolldahlia on Instagram to see what it is supposed to look like (I have one growing that doesn't look like what I thought it should) and an account called cheviotflowers had a picture of China Doll with the exact same stripey pattern that your HH Daydream has. I thought you might want to see it!
It doesn't solve anything, but I thought it was pretty crazy that I we have never seen that pattern before o dahlias, and now there it is twice in one week! It is the post with the picture of Night Silence on the cover, and it is the second photo.

Trelyn Rhiannon looks much better than last year.

Just Married maintains itself as a pretty decent bloomer.

Lifestyle looks like a cross between Twilite and Polka.

Here is a picture of a variegated waterlily that is growing in the garden. Is it HH Tigress or is it a seedling? I need to
"go to ground"and extricate the plant tag.

I only had one Clearview Leroux bloom this season. The plant was shaded out by taller neighbors. It didn't wow me but I'll give it another go next year and see if it's better with more sun and a year of acclimating to my soil.

MissyWeitzel I’m glad you’re giving this one another chance. This was a surprise standout for me this year, I was not expecting to love it as much as I did. She’s pumped out numerous enormous blooms at a time on sturdy tree-trunks for stems. And when left to fully ripen they almost begin to do that lovely birds-nest formation which I’ve fallen in love with this year!

Teddahlia how many variations have you had of unstable red and white intros? I'm still hoping to score HH Joker's Wild or HH Jester next year.

" HH Joker's Wild or HH Jester next year." We always grew HH Jester because it had many solid red flowers and we needed red. For whatever reason we no longer have it and Jokers Wild has not been in our garden for over 10 years. Court Jester was the rarest one that Margaret likes the best. We got some good stock this year.
