My new iPhone saves images in Apple's proprietary .heic format. Most of the time I have to convert to jpg format to use them outside of Apple.😠 I'll try attaching the same pic in .heic and .jpg.

Interesting. Only the .jpg version is coming through on my feed. If I go to my profile, both .heic and .jpg are there in My Media, but only the .jpg is viewable. The .heic has an "I can't show you this image" icon, instead of the thumbnail picture. When I click on it I can download the .heic file, but not view it. The download reconstitutes fine on my (Mac) computer. It is in some sort of limbo on this site. Just to be clear, my gripe is entirely with Apple, and I don't expect this site to accommodate their latest effort to keep me within the Apple universe.

Ok, I finally found out I can change my iPhone's photo format to just .jpg, (Settings/Photos/Format>Most Compatible). I will leave this up in case anyone else has problems with iPhone photos.

PNWGal Yes, the code that processes the images doesn't do .heic. I can see the file in the uploaded images directory but it doesn't open on my Linux desktop because I don't have the codec for it installed. We could make those files show a link, so they could still be downloaded but I'm disinclined since only users of Apple products would be able to view them without jumping through extra hoops.

Darce Nope, that one was on me. We're still figuring out the details of how the software and, in this case, a third-party extension works. Perils of a two day install/configure/test/configure/go-live development cycle. 🙃

I also uploaded the image at the medium setting - not at actual size from my iPad library if that is helpful info for you

Personally, I like the larger images. Less time spent opening and closing.

Yes, you can just drag the file into the post, too. Downside, if pics are included in talky threads it can cause people to have to scroll a lot more to follow a convo.
