AndreaB calico20hill THe cat is is my son's, Zephyr Jasper, Byron and now Zephyr. Some of the most handsome kitties I’ve seen!
calico20hill Well, yes, LOL. Out of all the kitties who needed homes we fell for Zephyr with is aqua blue eyes. THose eyes reminded us of our long gone beloved Hairry. Zephyr and Marya are still grrowing into their personalities.
Teddahlia We visited Clack's Dahlias on Sunday. Ginger is doing much better after getting her hip replacement. Ginger Clack was able get some seeds from Spartacus and got a very nice seedling. It is an "A" sized flower, well over 8 inches in diameter with good depth. Color is a darker red than Spartacus and it may be just a bit streaked. They have named it CDP Ezra. The CDP stands for "Clack's Dahlia Patch". Plant is 4 feet tall.
calico20hill Here is my favorite seedling this year. It is one of my Salish Berries Au Lait seedlings. I saw it doing this last year and hoped I would be able to carry it over. I think you could say that it is worth it! What does one call this formation? I think RIver's has some of them, though not in my seed patch . I also need a jazzy name for it.....oh yes. I think it is Bb sized but haven't measured it and it grows to a nice size but not terribly tall....I'll try to take those measures tomorrow. I sure hope it makes seeds! But even more I hope it makes tubers....
Juliarugula calico20hill ooh - I love it! The petals make me think of cannolis! 🤣🤣. Probably not a romantic enough name for it though.
Teddahlia I just posted on Facebook that it is a double orchid. It would be in the NX class and probably pink. Noni, likes to create flowers that really get your attention.
AndreaB Now I can’t look at it without visualizing the florets filled with cream and topped with mini chips! Rollie Cannolis 😂 It’s beautiful, Noni. I hope it makes tubers, too!
calico20hill I just remembered, this probably came out of the Berries Au Lait seedlings that Steve had and tried out. So Thanks Steve for what ever you did to it when you had this stock :-)
SteveM calico20hill So Thanks Steve for what ever you did to it when you had this stock :-) Noni, I wish I could claim some of the credit, that is a beautiful color and I love the form. Does the double orchid have a tendency to shatter? I have had limited experience with them.
Teddahlia I went out after the rain and picked these pink seedling flowers. In the picture they look much bigger than they are and that is 5.5 inches in diameter. The artificial light in the kitchen gives these flowers a slight blueish cast. I tried to tone down the blue but the color is just bit off . I put before and after together.
Bessie SteveM Speaking of shattering... I've removed Solo dahlia from my open hybridization. When I'm removing outsides petals they come off readily, the head has popped off more than once when messing with the bloom, and they have a bobble head at this point in time.
calico20hill I will keep my eye on it and see how soon it shatters.. I hope we have a few more weeks left to observe it in...
Cosey Bessie It's always hard to remove something that photographs so well. However, given time and space you'll be glad you made the hard decision now versus when you might have had many more plants.
SteveM Teddahlia What percentage of bee-crossed seedlings do you save compared to the percentage of hand-crossed seedlings? I'm wondering if hand crosses are worth the extra time and effort involved.
