CiCiVacation - that was my question as well. I liked the ability to have first names, zone/location and any thing else that folks wanted to have. (Like Ted has his quote about being in the garden). But that's minor compared to just having a place for us all to chat.

CiCiVacation I think I have something that will work:

Click on your account button.
Click Profile.
Click Edit Profile.
Optionally add Name, Location, and/or Zone.

The info will be visible in the profile and in the popup when you hover your mouse pointer over the poster's avatar. It is visible only to forum members, not to guest visitors.

Also, click on the plus sign (+) on your profile's banner to add links to your web presences, social media, etc.

I am assuming this form will be hidden and wont have to available / advertised to everyone non cubits that visits dahlia addict for tuber sale info? I could see that being overwhelming if too many are on here

I don't have any big plans for it. It's as visible as the Cubits forum was. I may end up having to monetize it in some way depending on if the volume of photos/notification emails raises my hosting costs. Thanks to those who have contributed btw!

SteveM Hmmm..... I'm having trouble finding something that will work. It turns out the one I'm seeing, clarkwinkelmann/flarum-ext-high-contrast (v0.1.0, released April 1 2018: Initial version), is unfortunately what you might expect based on the release date. It's probably great - if you want all the text to be rainbow Comic Sans.

It's a bummer because the developers are aware this is an issue with the default theme (I found discussions about contrast levels from 4-5 years ago.) They did increase the contrast some but not up to recommended levels for visually impaired folks. They felt it could be addressed by an extension or by modifying the CSS.

I'm looking into other possibilities and if you're aware of another extension, I'm open to it. Otherwise, I'll see what I can do with overriding some of the CSS to improve the situation. In the meantime, I know some of the web browsers have add-ons to increase contrast.

mr_blown_dry I tried Stylebot (the first extension that came up in search) and it does a nice job of editing the CSS. There are other extensions, maybe better, but this seems to work in my case. I was long overdue installing something like this on my browser. Now, everything is big and bold and I should be able to see it from my field.🙂

Thanks much for checking it out. I have this same problem with many of the newer dahlia vendors who design their sites for florists and not for blind farmers.🙂 I am sure there are browser extension that will override the CSS on a site, I have just been too lazy to look into it.

SteveM Love your qoute about "Blind farmers". I was diagnosed with a rare eye condition a couple of years ago and it constantly trips me up with things like mispelling "Calico" but accidently doubling the "l" and my eyes not sorting it out. So my name on here is supposed to be "calico20hill" but about 3 days after I set it up, I reallized I had gotten an extra "l" iin it and my eyes didn't sort it out.)Amanda, is there any way to take the extra "l" out of callico and make it calico20hill? I catch a lot of others too that look like mispellings but are really mis-seeing. It does keep me humble.....

Maybe this is discussed elsewhere but one function I liked with Cubits was that you could jump to the first unseen post in a thread. That possible here?

Honnat When I click on a discussion it takes me to the unread posts or at least the most recent. What is it doing for you, Nathan?

blown_dry I find when I click on a discussion, it brings me to first post unleas I first click the number in the box to the right of the discussion topic. If I click that number first and then click the discussion I get to the latest (unread) post.

Wondering what the organization or hierarchy of threads and discussions will be? Will we have a main section with threads that pertain under it?

I was going to start a 'Macro & Artsy images of Dahlias' like we had here, but am not sure if I just start a 'discussion'.

OK, I think I am in now...No longer Islander , but now "calico20hill" because that is when
I started this new garden after moving form Vashon Island, WA to Warren, Oregon. My old Business was "CALICO GARDENS CUT FLOWERS" but I retired from that when I moved. Now I grow things for my own pleasure and to share with others who like them, as well as continuing to breed and grow new dahlias under the name of "Salish". I no longer live on the Salish Sea, but it is such a part of who I am....and NW Oregon is not that different in many ways. MY property here is less then half the size, and it is on heavy clay soil that is very hard to work with, I now grow only in raised beds because of that . The past 3 years have been difficult getting to know a new community with all the social isolation of protecting a medically vulnerable son from Covid. (Born with a rare muscle mutation that causes loss of energy from the muscles) My son is a great companion and cooks for us while I garden...could be worse, LOL. He is 39 now and one of my best friends. Husband is a retired Boeing Engineer who is generally up to building any garden bed or other interesting structure I need. (Right now it is a catio for our 2 new rescue kitties). My youngest daughter lives about a half hour down the road which is why we chose this location...We moved here just after our one and only grandbaby was born.
