This is my second year doing cuttings, and I started quite a bit earlier than last year. (Probably a bit too early - I think I’ll split the difference next year).
Anyhow, some of my early cuttings are really getting big for their 4” pots, so I spent some time today potting them up. Most were at about the right stage of root development, but a couple of them seemed a bit root bound. What should I do with a dahlia cutting that’s gotten a little root bound? Other than decide it’s now a pot tuber? I have a tendency to treat everything like a tomato plant which likes some good rough handling, but i hesitated.
Can I just get the soil good and wet and wantonly rip away the edges of the bound roots? Not high stakes, because I have plenty of back up tubers and cuttings for this guy, but I’m just curious as to what best practice would be. I mean, other than not starting quite so early.
