We've got some wild primrose popping up which hasn't appeared here the past two years since my gf bought the property. The thousands of yuccas around are in-bloom as well.

MissyWeitzel I touched a fringed tulip for the first time last month, while visiting the tulip festival here in Washington. I was so surprised to discover how firm the fringes are?! I expected them to be feathery and soft. Your last tulip is a pearly, beauty! The Mentons are the last to finish up in my garden. This photo is from yesterday, when I thought they looked perfect.

I have a few varieties that reliably return for several years. Seems like the trick is to choose later blooming varieties with long stems. That way the leaves have plenty of time to absorb sun, both before and after picking.

KitCMC Great eye, yes ginger! This is a shady, dryer spot under our back stairs and some of the ground covers have had trouble taking. If I watered it more I could get those pretty natives to take over and cut down on the bald spots and weeds. 🥴

Nothin' like a good day of planting followed by a trip to a garden center on the way to procure a Hollyhill Pink Martini tuber in a solo cup from a friend! My order for that variety was canceled and I was sad, but yet again dahlia friends prove to be the best. 😊
The osteospermum caught my eye from a couple aisles over so it was meant to come home with me. I'm also excited about another variety of mint to add to my potted mint collection. I like mint tea and it's so nice to pair it with dahlias in bouquets.

MissyWeitzel I grew an osteospermum like that last year in blue. I planted a few of them in the ground and they took forrr-ever to bloom. Once they started they were nonstop, and quite an attention-getter, but I think they’re more suited to pots. I really like the color you found. It’d make a nice Halloween pot with those orange marigolds in the background 😊 Congrats on your HH Pink Martini score. I planted mine with no visible eye and am praying it’ll surprise me.

KitCMC I haven't allowed myself to go down the bearded iris path, but boy is it tempting! I love those soft colors!

MissyWeitzel they’re not fussy at all, and some are even repeat bloomers. I also like that they leave an interesting texture in perennial beds even when they’re done blooming. This is not a division year for me, but I will happily share when it’s time.

KitCMC last year I succumbed to the bearded iris bug and placed my first few orders - bought about 25 varieties. I’ve been waiting excitedly for them to bloom for the first time.

Stoopid rabbit came through and took a single bite out of each flower stalk. 😡

To add insult to injury, the few that remain seem to have decided to bloom while I’m chaperoning a million middle-schoolers on a Washington DC field trip. Ugh. I guess I get to wait another year for the irises.

It sure is nice how quickly dahlias reach their full blooming potential…
