Dahlia53 How do we initiate private conversations - can that be done on this forum?

Yes, it can!

On the filter menu (At the top on mobile devices and on the top left on desktops.) there's a link to filter Private Discussions.
Once you're in that "list" (There won't be anything there yet.) the Start a Discussion button will change to a Discuss Privately button.
Compose your message like normal and post it.
You will be prompted for recipients with a forum member search box.

It will show up in all the recipients' All Discussions list and filtered Private Discussions. The recipients will also be notified they have a private discussion via email if they have that option enabled.

The other way is to mouse over (or press and hold?) on the person's avatar/icon so that you can see their bio info. Click on the three dots in the upper right and one of the options is to "send [person] a message". This will create a "private discussion" with them that they can participate in if they wish.

Press and hold won't work on mobile but if you tap (or click on desktop) on the avatar to view the other user's profile, one of the options is Private Discussions. (If you have previous private discussions with that user, they will be listed.) Then click Discuss Privately and it will automatically add the other user to the new private discussion.

thank you for this helpful information; it's great we can have private conversations on both mobile and desktop since i'm a desktop dinosaur . Wondering if this info can be pinned or put into a FAQ type section if it hasn't already. Thank you both for your tech genius, @mr_blown_dry and @blown_dry ! or... i can just follow!

Dahlia53 I'm with you! Mobile devices have their place. I was an early adopter of PDAs back in the late 90s and, today, make heavy use of smartphones and tablets for work and play.
