Every year while dividing I wind up with a number of tubers that lose skin off the crown, either during cleaning or cutting. I always toss these tubers, but ever year I wonder if I should save them. If a tuber loses the skin over the eye on the crown, can that eye still sprout? Or is the sprouting mechanism located in the skin of the tuber?
Mostly, I’m just curious, but I imagine someday I will have this happen to a tuber I consider precious, so it would be useful to know…
