Growers remove sprouts because customers complain thinking that if sprout breaks off in shipping, that the tuber will not grow. We experienced growers know that is not true but many customers are beginners and have theories that there is only one sprout and the tuber is dead. So the sellers remove the long sprouts. I did so for many years, but now since I almost never sell to a beginner, I leave very many of the spouts on the tubers and occasionally get thankful emails thanking me for the sprouts. No complaints about them. Yes, occasionally, I will harvest a sprout and root it. They are what I call "white cuttings" and they take weeks longer to develop and the failure rate is a bit higher too. I like regular cuttings better. ![](https://forum.dahliaaddict.com/assets/files/2024-04-17/1713367789-716157-rudolphpetunia.jpg)
HH Rudolph MB Red. Easy grower, makes lot of nice flowers and nice tubers. The problem is there are a bazillion small red flowered dahlias.
