Tomato suggestions for Ted

I grew a number of different ones last season in grow bags The problem is that they were all really good...I am not sure I had a favorite among them! I think the best might have been the one that one of our friends here had sent me from her garden but it was a local one for her and I did not save seeds. I wish I had thought to! I think she might have lived in Indiana? or somewhere in that area. Anyone here recognize themselves in this description? All my tomatoes were good and I would raise any of them again. I will always grow Sun Gold cherry tomatoes.I think Black Krim was among the the tomato hoard and the only name I remember among them. Some of the seeds were from Territorial and some from Baker Creek, plus others. Which is probably no help what so ever to you!

That was me! I’m so glad you liked it - it’s my favorite of any variety I’ve tried. It’s a largish Pink potato leaf beeksteak type called Rebel Yell. Its main drawback is it can have a tendency to crack, but I just pick early and let it finish ripening on the counter. I save seeds from it every year because I’m pretty sure it isn’t commercially available anywhere. I got it in an online tomato enthusiast swap about 15 years ago. I’m happy to mail you some more seeds if you’d like to grow it again this year, Noni - just let me know.

Ted, if you’d like to try it I can send you some seeds too!

I would LOVE to have more seeds of it, and maybe I can save some this year. And if Ted tries it and likes it we can possibly keep it going between us. I love having an heirloom tomato plant!

calico20hill I think it’s not technically an heirloom, just open pollinated. I think when I got it, it was the new hot variety of the past 5 years or so. So, I don’t know, 20 years old now? Whatever it is, it’s tasty!

My mouth is watering already! I grew up in S.E. PA originally, where tomatoes were TOMATOES! Still miss those 'Jersey' tomatoes! Everything grown out west tastes insipid . I like beefsteak kinds that will crack your lips if you eat too many of them. I know this is for Ted, so excuse my butting in. I'll read up about Rebel Yell. But if any of you recommend some tasty tomatoes for the cool NW coast, I'd be so grateful to know what they are.

Dark tomatoes - Black Krim, Purple Cherokee, Paul Robeson - all have a full flavor and are so lovely. Green Zebra is quite acidic - one of my favorites. Any of the "bumblebee" varieties (cherry and quite prolific), Pineapple is an amazing, huge gorgeous, golden beefsteak type, but my favorite is Costoluto Fiorentino altho Baker Creek lists it as Costoluto Genovese. I grew all of these for yrs in large nursery pots in Bellingham.

Bradywine, Big Beef, Celebrity, Carolina Gold, Mountain Merit --- I grow all and are all good choices.
