I'm on the mailing list for Coseytown Flowers, so this morning I read an announcement describing a new model of how they will run their business going forward. My first thought was how bold and brave to forge a model that will seek to protect their most valued asset(new hybrids) from exploitation. My next thought was the new model seemed fair to allow multiplication of tubers for flower farmers own use. I fully support their new model and hope it works, and that the farm is able to continue to build the business to get a fair return on their massive investment of time and product. This is a mom and pop organization that deserves success and to get sustainable monetary compensation for their efforts. I believe farming is not an easy occupation. If I was a grower and really wanted to resale their tubers or cuttings, at some point in the future I'd reach out to see if I could reach an agreement to pay a royalty for sales of Coseytown products. Change is never easy.
