MissyWeitzel Oooo Appaloosa is outstanding dried! I’ve been wondering if the variegated blooms hold up through the drying process — I wondered if the bi’s and tri’s would and I’m thrilled to hear they do. I popped out for a few more whites, balls, and *wild ones and I can’t wait to review results.

Krista what do you do with the dried flowers? I have been drying some this season, not fully knowing what my plan for them will be. I just didn’t know what else to do with them. I am thinking making seasonal decor like a holiday wreath. I made a fun Halloween decor with dried HH black beauty and Sandia mace plus dried love in a mist pods and bishops lace. Looks like creepy alien eyes with the seed pods and HHBB dries sooo dark it’s perfect creepy Halloween vibes. I will have to get a photo of some of my dried dahlias that I have been impressed with

Justafewdahlias I can’t wait to see photos of your dried blooms! This is my first year drying dahlias and my goal is one wreath (for our exterior front door) and a few indoor arrangements to get me through until blooms arrive again next summer. With seed pods developing, and pest pressure lightening up, I’m finally feeling free to cut blooms with abandon.

Krista Hollyhill black beauty and the shorter one in the middle is Sandia mace. It’s interesting how dahlias dry and the color can change. I dried some “sunkissed” dahlias (which to me is a cool,pale yellow) but it dried very bright yellow, much brighter then what it grows as on the plant

MissyWeitzel Lovely!!! I don’t think I’ve seen these photos yet, even if you have. I’m also curious about how the various forms hold up and whether there’s any uniformity within forms too. It’s fantastic to see your photoss, you’ve done so much experimentation already and it’s exciting to see the spread in colors and shapes in your results!

A few of my dried dahlia pictures. I think the trickiest color to achieve is pink. If there are purple undertones they will dry to somewhere between lavender and black. White dahlias with a light pink blush will sometimes dry white with a pink blush but it truly changes with each individual bloom even within the same variety. That makes it difficult if you're aiming for uniformity, but exciting if you're open to all different results!
