Last year I grew Mak's Meredith and saved seed from it. I really don't remember it that well, but I have a beautiful seedling this year and I am wondering how much different it is from its mama....I would love to see pictures, and comments on whether the seedling is different enough to keep. I only remember that the plants were really big and healthy...

I don't remember it as a miniature but if it looks like a good waterlily I will happily grow it again.

Juliarugula It seemed real healthy too. It was in a part of the garden that starts to shade out earliest so I will try it where it has better conditions next year.

Yes, I wondered whether it varied enough from Mak's Meridith to make it a keeper. I will grow it again next year and plant it where it gets more hours of sunlight and see how it looks. It seems to be a good seed maker.

"It seems to be a good seed maker." This was the best year for seed production we have ever had. I could go out today and get seeds and may do so as there are a couple of plants that I bought this year to try for seeds and I believe there are more on them. Margaret set records for her hand crossed seed production. I ran out of seed envelopes and will need to order another box next year. I use coin envelopes #7.

I have a box of tubers ready to send off to Triple Wren for them to trial next year. That will be a relief to get them into other hands to be responsible for them over the winter...I enjoy the growing out seeds part of it. Shipping tubers anywhere is not something I enjoy...trusting my babies to the US mails, PARTICULARLY in late November with the capricious weather! At least we are in a warm wet pattern right now, not an arctic blast.

I shucked a nice batch of seeds collected on 11-22-24. Earlier in the year that variety was a bit shy with seed production. I harvested 4 pods and got 80 seeds and all were dark black and quite fat and this variety has very short seeds. The seedlings will be 4th generation of our breeding and go back to HH Liz that won a medal.

Teddahlia this one reminds me of Hollyhill Zarina. How does the size compare? Are they related?

Zarina was a seedling of this plant's grandparent. Zarina is the Uncle/Aunt of this one. Zarina is a bit bigger flower.

Teddahlia Are you able to share photos with us of Hollyhill Cheerio and Hollyhill Ruby Rose? I saw them listed on the ADS trial garden results table, but there were no photos of them in the photo albums. I’d love to see them!

Hoo boy. I think you posted photos of Cheerio on here last year and it was one of my favorites of the recent seedlings you posted! I love those deep Hollyhill cactuses, and the pink!!!

Both are stunning! I really like the form of HH Ruby Rose. How well does the cupped bloom compete in a show against the traditional WL form? I feel that 'incurved'WL deserves its own class.

SteveM The petals should be cupped for a waterlily....but the form is suppose to be flat from a side view. The definition needs to be updated to include these "incurved" types.

SteveM Agree! I would like to see more 'incurved waterlilies'.

blown_dry if the definition or classification was updated hopefully that would encourage those breeding dahlias to create more new varieties with this style of form and have it be even more prominent. Having a dahlia score well at trial gardens and win at shows seems to be a goal or measurement of success for some. It also seems to be a selling/ advertising point of new intros. I grew Kelgi Anne this year and loved the cupped waterlilly look. But when browsing water Lilly type dahlias online it seems like the “cupped/incurved” style is not as common.
